Materials & care
As the name KLAEI suggests, our jewelry is primarily made of polymer clay and is refined with high quality metal components.
What is Polymer Clay?
Polymer clay - or better known to us as FIMO - is a modeling clay that can be easily molded by hand and then hardened in the oven. This process gives the material two valuable properties that are perfect for costume jewelry in particular:
- It becomes light as a feather – so you barely feel even large earrings on your earlobes!
- It is very durable.
Polymer clay also offers many opportunities to let your creativity run wild: From versatile techniques, to a seemingly endless selection of cutters and textures, there's everything a designer's heart could desire. We love Polymer Clay 🤍
Handmade with love
All styles are designed with great attention to detail by me, Claudia, in Linz, Austria.
Each piece of jewelry goes through a lengthy design process - from mixing colors, to prototyping, to the finished jewelry, all stations are made by hand. So every piece is truly unique.

Jewelry
Since I have sensitive ear holes myself, it is important to me to provide detailed material information and to use those materials that are generally well tolerated. That's why you will always find information about the materials used in each product.
At KLAEI we mainly work with stainless steel, brass or 18-karat gold plating or sterling silver.
If you have any problems wearing the jewelry, please contact me and we will find a solution together.
There is also the option of switching to surgical stainless steel or plastic studs for selected pieces of jewelry. Find out more here: For sensitive ears
Packaging
Our products are mounted on CO2 neutral recycled paper jewelry cards and all shipping and gift packaging is FSC certified, the foam inserts are made of tall oil (no crude oil/plastic).
Especially our gift boxes are very sturdy and we recommend not to throw them away but to use them further e.g. as a storage box!
Greeting cards
All our greeting cards are also printed on CO2 neutral recycled paper. Small dark inclusions in the paper are a sign of this and testify to the recycled nature of the material. The beautiful feel makes it perfect for writing kind words on.
Important care tips
To make sure that your jewelry stays beautiful for as long as possible and that you have a lot of fun with it, we have the following care tips for you.
Please avoid ✋🏻
- Your jewelry does not like to sleep on your ears! Take it off before going to bed to avoid breakage or bending and keep it in a dry place.
- Avoid contact with any liquid such as water, steam, perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, oil, detergents and even sweat. These can discolor the jewelry or damage the surface. Bath, shower, swim, exercise therefore rather without.
- Avoid too long or strong sun exposure and do not leave your favorite pieces in the blazing sun. This can discolor or fade your jewelry.
- Avoid too much pressure, shocks or blows against hard surfaces and do not bend the polymer clay pieces! Your jewelry could break, scratch, or parts could come apart.
Cleaning 🫧
- If your pieces get dirty, you can clean them carefully with a soft cloth and water with a little soap. Please note: Do not use alcohol, it will dissolve the polymer clay!
- Raw brass you can simply soak for a short time in ketchup - yes, ketchup 😉 - and then wash with water.
- Pieces with unsealed gold leaf/silver/rose gold finishes should not be cleaned or only very carefully!
